5 years old!

How is this kid 5?! I can't believe he is heading to kindergarten in the fall!

I feel like Justin has come a long way since we moved here in September - physically I feel like he's stronger than he was. He dares to do more. He tries things he didn't used to try. Some of this may be due to having a very active little brother- but I think the gym and playground at school have been great for him too. He also seems to be learning a lot at school - hopefully he'll be ready for the transition to kindergarten!

He's still a very sweet boy. He loves his WHOLE FAMILY and enjoys talking about them. What he wanted for his birthday was for his WHOLE FAMILY to come to his party. He's very loving and is always telling us he loves us and giving hugs and kisses. Even via Facetime he makes sure to share some love with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins!

I'm not sure he's made a lot of friends in his new school. He doesn't talk about kids like he did in Dallas. I know I miss those kids (and their moms) in Dallas terribly. They really had become a little family. I don't feel like we've developed that here yet at all with classmates. And with Justin off to yet a new school in the fall I guess we'll have a whole new group of people to learn!

One thing we had been working on this year was teaching him to stand up to himself. With Kyle...and others. It's not an easy concept to teach - he would often not react quick enough with Kyle and I kept trying to tell him he can't wait 2 minutes and then decide Kyle deserved it. But there were two kids at school that tackled him recently and he hauled off and hit them. When he was telling me why he got in trouble at school I asked several questions and it certainly sounded like he had done what we had talked about. Dave confirmed with the teacher the next day that yes indeed- he didn't get in much trouble because he was just defending himself. The other two kids got sent home from school. It's a good feeling when you know the lessons you've been trying to teach stick!!!

Justin is a great big brother to his "buddy". He's sweet to Kyle and is always looking out for him. They are really fun to watch together. Of course they whine and fight about things too..but let's focus on the positive..

Happy 5th birthday to my very sweet little boy!

Late Riggan Christmas

In January we headed over to Eastern Iowa for a little late Christmas with the fam! It was a great time and the boys thoroughly enjoyed their cousins!
